I recently received one heck of a boost of inspiration. It came from 19 women in Utah who are struggling to put themselves through college.
I was honored to be one of three judges for the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award. It involved me curling up on my couch one afternoon and reading the women’s own words of why they deserve a scholarship. Their stories touched me. Many of the women are single moms, left to raise their kids on their own, put food on the table themselves. But if that’s not challenging enough—they all decided to achieve their higher education degrees. Some of the women are divorce homemakers—left in their 40s and 50s with no education, no work experience. I wish they could all get scholarships!
The Soroptimist of Salt Lake does incredible work helping women and girls in the area. Just today, they held a 12-hour scrapbooking session to raise money to end domestic violence. Being a scrapbooking addict myself, I had to stop by! It was a great time and there was no better way to be the inversion than making scrapbooking, raising money for an important cause and making new friends.
