SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - I love my son and he will be vindicated.
This is what Governor Gary Herbert said about his son, Nathan, at the governor’s monthly news conference Thursday.
Nathan Herbert, age 39, is accused, for the second time, of stalking.
The governor suspected reporters were going to ask about his son, so he beat them to the punch.
Before he took questions, the governor said he wanted to make a statement.
He wanted to talk about Nathan.
Specifically, the governor's son is accused in a civil matter of stalking the sister of a woman he was charged with stalking five years ago.
Thursday, the governor told reporters,
"Nathan is my son. He's my adult son and I love him dearly."
While the governor didn't want to say much about this matter which is now before the court, he was asked about balancing his family and political
lives.
To which he replied,
"Issues happen in families that are difficult and unfortunately for my son his dad happens to be the governor."
Nathan Herbert is challenging the latest accusations against him.
His attorney issued a statement saying,
"It will soon be shown in a court of law that the allegations against Nathan Herbert are malicious and false."
It’s a point the governor was quick to pick up on in his final comment on the matter.
"I believe, knowing some of the facts, I think his day in court will happen and he will be vindicated."
Finally, Governor Herbert also said he will not personally be getting involved in the case.
