I just discovered the best article about gaining confidence and tackling fears. I shared a little bit of it on the show today, but the part I like best is written by Danica Patrick. You know, the beautiful woman driver who placed third in the 2009 Indianapolis 500?
In this article she talks about success and says it's all in your thoughts, it's a mindset. The instant you tell yourself 'I can't do it', you can't. "You will never succeed," she says, "if you are distracted by pride or anger. I don't let my emotions get the best of me. But I still get nervous - and that can be good if it doesn't come from feeling unprepared. It means something matters, that you're hoping for the best."
Her pre-race secret? Relax and take three deep, slow breaths. Something that I think would work even if you aren't in a race. Maybe you are just walking into a party, visiting the in-laws or disciplining your four year old. Just practice postitive thinking, tell yourself I can do it!
