Winter weather is just around the corner. I'm asked all the time, "will we get a lot of snow this winter?" "Is it going to be cold?" Today NOAA will issue their long term winter forecast. We'll learn their thoughts on temperatures, rain and snow for the winter months.

So what do I think? Folks that know me know I'm not a big fan of the "long term" forecast. I know how difficult it is to be correct tomorrow let along next month! Still, some forecasters will try to give us an idea of what to expect and when.

I will say this, after last winter it would be hard to imagine less snow than what we saw last season. On average, our annual snowfall in Salt Lake City is around 65 inches. Last year, we finished up with about half that amount. We really don't want to see that amount or less this year. The light snowfall was partially responsible for our active wildfire season. Drier than normal conditions would also be bad for our water supply.

We'll see what NOAA has to say later today and I'll post their forecast tomorrow. Regardless, only time will tell for certain what kind of winter we see this year. Don't forget to check out my Facebook page and my Twitter feed.
