I almost hate to even talk about it. I feel a little like the hunter trying to lure in some elusive big game, I don't want to make any sudden movements! I'll turn on the "whisper" font and say...it looks like we could see snow late Sunday and Monday.

There, I did it. It seems we've seen storm after storm on approach this winter only to see them wash out or split upon arrival. For weeks a large blocking high has been sitting off the Pacific coast and our storms haven't been able to push through to Utah.

A couple of the forecast models we look at are trending towards a pretty strong cold front digging in for late Sunday and Monday. When we see these trends on one model it's hard to get excited. When we see them developing on a couple of models we become a little more confident. If the trend continues through successive model runs we feel even better about our forecast. The next day or two will give us a better idea of where things might stand by late Sunday and early Monday.

Just to put our winter in perspective to this point, we've seen 9.5" of snow at the Salt Lake Airport. Last year at this time, we'd already received 37.6"! A normal snowfall to this point is 27" so we're at about 30% of where we should be for snowfall so far.

If I had to forecast a snowfall amount today (Thursday) for Monday I would say 1-2" tops in the valley. We'll see how the next few days play out, because as always Mother Nature will have the final say on just how much snow we actually see.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned!
