If you liked the recent solar eclipse grab your telescopes and your sun viewing glasses because Venus is set to put on a show even more rare than the eclipse! Coming up on June 5th, Venus will pass through the face of the sun.
It's called a "transit" and compared to an eclipse is far more rare. Transits of Venus have only been seen by humans 7 times since the invention of telescopes in the early 1600s! So take this down, on Tuesday, June 5th, at 4:06pm Venus will start to move across the face of the sun. This is a slow process so by the time the sun sets shortly before 9, Venus will still be crossing in front of the sun.
Just as with the recent solar eclipse it's VERY important you have proper sun viewing glasses to watch this event first hand. If you don't already have a pair, you can get sun viewing glasses through the Clark Planetarium or the Natural History Museum of Utah.
