Since Jeremy Lin became this worldwide phenom, I continue to hear people comparing him to Tim Tebow.
That needs to stop ASAP!
Lin and Tebow are nothing alike. Actually, the ONLY thing they have in common seems to be the faith-based comments they make in the media. Other than that, they're polar opposites. One national blogger has even gone as far as to dub Tebow and Lin, "The God Squad."
Coming out of high school, Tebow was on the radar of every college team. As for Lin, well, most schools couldn't care less about him.
Following college, Tebow was a 2-time National Champion, a Heisman Trophy winner and was being talked about as the greatest college football player ever! He could have ran for president and won. Lin was a dude who played at Harvard. That's it.
Funny how the stories take a different turn once we hit the professional level.
People continued to fall in love with Tebow, despite the fact that he's one of the worst quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL. He's a great player/athlete, but a horrible QB. Just because you're great in college doesn't mean you'll have that same success in the National Football League. The NFL is another planet compared to the college game. Listen, what Tebow did for the Broncos this season was incredible. The win streak, the playoff miracles. He was fun to watch. Will that continue? I don't think so. He keeps working on his throwing mechanics, but let's be real, this far down the road it's hard to make big changes and be successful and that's what Tebow needs to do if he wants to continue to play QB in the NFL.
Back to Lin....he was cut by a number of teams in his first season and he was on the verge of being cut by the Knicks a few weeks ago. And while living on his brother's couch, he got his chance to shine thanks to a few injuries on New York's roster. The guy has seized the moment and he's not letting go. Lin has shown he IS the REAL deal. I'm not saying he's the best point guard to ever play the game, but since Linsanity came out of nowhere, he hasn't slowed down. From where he started, to where he is now is incredible. He never gave up.
There are tons of questions about Tebow moving forward, like will he ever be good? With Lin, the only question is how many points will he score next.
Stories like 'Linsanity' is what makes the sports world special. He continues to amaze every night. It'll eventually lose a little bit of buzz because he'll simply become just another great point guard in the NBA. But let's not compare him to someone who's nothing like him. At least on the playing surface.
