Nobody outside of Provo expects BYU to hang with #4 TCU this Saturday. I'm not sure there are many people who are actually in Provo that believe the Cougars can do that. But what if they did?
BYU is a 30-point underdog to the mighty Horned Frogs, and understandably so. BYU did lose to Utah State, while TCU's average margin of victory this season has been 31.3 points. Not to mention, BYU has been outscored by the Horned Frogs the last two years 70-14. But this is the first time all year, except for maybe the Florida State game, where the pressure is completely off of the Cougars.
BYU should come into the game loose, with nothing to lose. Just scoring a point on the TCU defense would be an accomplishment, seeing how the Horned Frogs have posted two straight shutouts. Maybe this is the game Jake Heaps makes a name for himself. The BYU running game sure got on track last week against San Diego State, and if they can somehow grind out consistent yardage on the Frogs, Heaps may have some time to make some big plays.
Maybe Bronco Mendenhall can work some magic with his defense to confuse and contain TCU quarterback Andy Dalton. The Cougars have to be able to put some pressure on Dalton to make that happen.
I realize a win is a far-fetched dream for Cougar fans, but stranger things have happened. And if the Cougars can pull off the impossible, this nightmare of a season would suddenly turn on a dime. Even if BYU can stay close and make a game of it, their confidence would be at a season high.
BYU has always clamored for exposure. Well, they have it this week in Forth Worth. Of course, this may just be another opportunity to be exposed.
