Memo to Hank Williams Junior:Stay away from chatting politics. Especially on Fox.
Monday morning Williams said the recent “golf summit” between President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner was “one of the biggest political mistakes ever.” Okay... he has a right to his opinions. But Williams jumps overboard in shark infested waters when he adds this historically improbable comparison, "It would be like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu,” Nooooooooooo!
Memo to anyone in the public eye:Stay away from any and all Hitler comparisons!
Unless you're talking about someone who has murdered millions and is bent on world domination... on second thought, just don't. Period.
Memo to ESPN:I know the mouse pulls your strings, but come on... the guy apologized, sort of. Just repeat after me, "We know people screw up sometimes and say things they later regret. Apology accepted. Don't do it again." There, doesn't forgiveness feel good?
In his defense, Hank Williams III wondered out loud to TMZ why anyone would be asking dear old dad about politics in the first place. Politics is not the reason people go to his concerts or buy his CD's.
I don't know if I can bear watching Monday Night Football without Hank's iconic musical declaration, "Are you ready for some football!" Going back a quarter century his song has been the anthem for football fans.
NBC tried to replicate it with their Sunday Night Football theme. And granted, Faith Hill is a lot easier on the eyes than Hank, still it is derivative. Hank is the original.
So how about it, ESPN? Hank Williams Jr. is not a savvy commentator familiar with the minefield of politically correct speech. He said, "sorry," sort of. Give him a break. Give football fans a break.
Give the guy a Mulligan.
