The hard questions just won't go away.
West Valley Police and the Salt Lake District Attorney say their investigation in the disappearance of Susan Powell is still active, so they're offering little more than "no comment."
Come again? You're only "person of interest" is dead. Josh Powell killed himself, but not before he murdered his two little boys with a hatchet and a gasoline-fueled fire.
Who's left to investigate?
Is there anything that points to anyone else?
Steve Powell? Do you suspect him of being an accomplice?
Josh did call his father, Steve, around noon on the day Susan disappeared. Was Josh telling his dad what he planned? Or just exchanging pancake recipes?
Steve Powell now sits in a Washington jail awaiting trial on charges of voyeurism and child pornography.
But if you couldn't bring murder charges against Josh without Susan's body, how could you hope to charge Steve with being an accomplice? Accomplice to what?!
Perhaps you want to charge him with "obstruction of justice."
Detective Gary Sanders of the Pierce County (Washington) Sheriff's Department said in a complaint for a search warrant that Josh and Steven Powell "both have obstructed in this investigation." In another instance, Detective Sanders called it "criminally obstructive behavior" for refusing to turn over Susan's journals.
Is that what you're still investigating?
Or are you just using the "active investigation" as an excuse to stonewall?
I really hope that's not the case. This community invested too much effort and prayer on behalf of Susan and her boys not to be told exactly what went so terribly, tragically wrong.
