My desk isn’t as messy as Andy Rooney’s but you will find stacks of paper. They are mostly organized into story ideas I am still working on, and stories that require a follow up. But there are small pieces of paper taped here and there, some to my computer screen, and some to my cubicle walls. They are not exactly the words I live by, but probably give insight into my personality. Some have been part of my work landscape for so long that I no longer remember where they came from.

Thomas Carlyle- Permanence, perseverance, and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: it is this that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak.

Shel Silverstein- “Listen to the mustn’ts child. Listen to the don’ts. Listen to the shouldn’ts, the impossibles, the won’ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me…Anything can happen child. Anything can be.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. - Everything that is done in the world is done by hope.

Anne Frank – No one ever became poor by giving.

Author unknown - Don’t get kicked by the same mule twice.

You can’t change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future.

Remember that success depends on your being first, best, or different.

Never hand evil a microphone

Hurry up and relax!

And finally- modified slightly- “Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, a Coke in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming “Woo Hoo what a ride!”

Have a fantastic weekend!
