Have you ever dialed a co-worker who is in the same room? Are you guilty of emailing or texting someone in the office upstairs so you don’t have to climb the stairs? You are not alone. According to a Business Week survey of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and other government numbers we are getting lazier.
The report also shows Americans are spending more time than ever sitting around. Television does contribute to those couch potato hours. According to a recent report by Nielsen, Americans now spend more time in front of TV’s than ever. The average viewer is watching two more hours of TV per month than in 2009. The average American now watches more than 35 hours of TV and spends nearly four hours on the internet every week.
While this may be great news for those of us in the TV industry, it’s causing heartburn for those in public health. The number of overweight and obese people also continues to rise. They recommend getting up, and moving, even if it’s just taking those few steps to talk to your co-worker in person.
