Barb's Blog: Sunflowers and back to school

I like sunflowers. I even planted some this year. I think it’s symbolic that they always turn to face the light. I think they are cool. Except that, my entire life I have associated them with the end of summer. They always bloom in the waning days of my favorite season. They herald the need to head to the mall for new socks, shoes, and backpacks. They remind me that school is about to begin once again. They are more powerful in my mind than the commercials for back to school sales that barrage the airways.

This summer went by particularly fast. I am just not ready for the arrival of the sunflowers, or the school days that follow. Our district is headed back in the middle of August.
