The quote you saw is from Kristi Spence, a sports dietitian at TOSH, the Orthopedic Specialty Hospital. We had a nice long chat about sports drinks today. You can see the story on our website. It got me thinking about my choice of beverages.
I don’t like water. I like warm water better than cold water, lemon water better than water, but I really don’t like water. It’s been a problem my whole life. I also don’t like milk, or juice all that much.
So, what do I drink? I drink lots and lots of energy drinks and coke. At night I drink herbal tea. Do I know this is bad? Yes, in fact, I have done stories on how bad this is. Am I addicted to energy drinks? No I don’t think so. I think I am just not addicted to water and things that are good for me.
So, what would the likes of Kristi Spence have me do? She says I need to wean myself away from the sugar, or even sugar free. She says I should start slow with a little lemon or fruit juice flavoring in my water. She says the less I drink the bad stuff, the less I will miss it. She says it could be a couple of weeks before I am less interested in the sugar in my life. She says I will feel better.
