Good Morning Utah! It’s been over a decade since my last visit to morning news. It’s the newscast that I cut my teeth on here at ABC 4. In fact, my co-anchor and I started the show. I was the one who came up with the name. It was only ninety minutes at its inception in 1990 and was the second morning show to serve Utah. I am proud to say it quickly became the number one morning news. Seven years later I was moved to another newscast. In parting, on that final show, I tossed my alarm clock (one of three that I set every night) across the room. It felt pretty good to know that I wouldn’t be getting up again at 2:30am on a regular basis.
Over the years, I have watched various teams at the desk of Good Morning Utah. I have never missed getting up in the middle of the night but there are aspects of morning news that I have missed. Morning news is different. It’s a little warmer, a little less formal, and in all honesty, a little more fun. It’s fast paced, and there’s a lot of time to fill. You are constantly on the go as you transition from weather, news stories, and traffic to live interviews in studio, and live interviews in the field. Those early morning hours fly by.
It’s been fun to fill-in for Don this week and reacquaint myself with morning news on the other side of the television screen. I still don’t like the hours, but the morning crew has been delightful, and the Good Morning Utah is every bit as fun as it used to be
