SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) The Joint Criminal Apprehension Team arrested three wanted men during a search that started in the morning and ended around nine in the evening.
On Thursday, police tried to arrest Ronnie Larry Wakefield in Taylorsville. The search shut down a small area. But he took off running even jumped into a cannel. U.S. Marshal spokesman, Jim Phelps says Wakefield was found a few hours later by a K-9 unit. "A UHP dog found him and actually bit him."
Phelps says he was wanted on a $25,000 credit card fraud charge.
Then around eight Thursday night members of J-CAT located two more wanted gang members. Phelps says police arrested Michael Velarde, who was a federal fugitive for being in possession of a firearm, and Kerry Wayne Parker, who was wanted on a Utah Board of Pardons warrant.
Phelps says the three were found following "surveillance on several individuals" which lead them to them.
He says in addition to the arrests they recovered a stolen and loaded firearm. And he called the joint law enforcement effort very successful. "These guys are known gang members - documented gang members. These are all primary targets."
