WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A West Valley woman says her dog named Chocolate was neglected at Amor Animal Hospital during her week long vacation, but the Hospital’s manager says this claim is not true.

“Was Chocolate neglected or abused in any way?”ABC 4’s Noah Bond asked Animal Hospital Manager Sally Stevenson. “Absolutely not,” she responded.

Becky Perkins left her 15-year-old Weimaraner and German Wirehaired Pointer mix in the Animal Hospital’s care during her vacation from February 23 to March 2.

Perkin’s sister Rhonie Smith picked up the dog and says it has pressure sores, diarrhea matted into its paws, and injuries to its hips and left shoulder when she picked him up.

Perkins filed a complaint with the West Jordan Police Department, but it won’t release documents because the investigation is active.

The Better Business Bureau gives Amor Animal Hospital an A plus rating. It has no previous complaints.

Stevenson says Chocolate was extremely anxious when he was dropped off at the Animal Hospital and his situation never improved. She says it’s more common for older dogs to struggle while their owners are away on vacation.

Look at the video footage of the hospital that apparently also serves as a boarding facility: Small CAGES!! Why in the WORLD would you even consider dropping your dog off at a place like this where you KNOW he won't get out of the cage for most of the day?? You, as the dog owner, are ALONE at fault for dropping your supposedly "family member' at a place like this! How about acknowledging that you can't just go on a week trip without making PROPER arrangements for your animals! Would it have been SOOO much more difficult to get a dog sitter for the week? I know it costs more, but if you have money for a weeks vacation, you have money for that as well, otherwise you have no business owning a dog. If your dog is shaking when you drop him off at a facility, maybe that's a SIGN that you picked the wrong place???

I took my dog to Amor for boarding for 5 years for periods of time up to 10 days... They took incredible care of him and he was always happy when I picked him up. He liked going there so much in fact, that I couldn't tell him we were going until right before we walked out the door because he was so excited to see those that took care of him and for his doggy play dates! I recommend Amor to anybody!!
