SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The need for help in the East Coast could be huge and Utah is ready to come to their assistance now.
We have seen the devastation. After a major storm is over, there is a huge need for the basics necessary to sustain life. While we wait to see what Sandy will do to the East Coast, Utah volunteers with the Red Cross are ready to go now.
As soon as they can get on a plane that will take them to the East Coast, two Utah volunteers will help in whatever way they can.
Vern Gillmore will be the first to leave and he will most likely be driving one of the Emergency Resource Vehicles into the damaged areas and serving hot meals to people who can't get out.
It may be hard to comprehend the destruction and potential need while we are in Utah; but we must all remember we have needed and received the help before.
Teresa Zundel from the Utah Chapter of the American Red Cross said, "It is real. It's here, just like it is there. People are just like us, they are like our neighbors. Lets help them. They need it."
The Red Cross needs your Time, Money and Blood.
