SPRING CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Spring City leaders are taking a bold step in favor of guns.

City Councilman Neil Sorensen is working to pass an ordinance for household have one.

"It will prevent crime from happening. It will be a deterrent. A criminal might think twice about a home invasion," said Neil Sorensen.

He says Kennesaw, Georgia experienced a 50 percent drop in crime in 1982 when the city required every home to have a gun.

But is it safe to arm Elementary school teachers with guns? "If they find it they'll get interested that's were accidents happen," said Carly Thurgood.

While Thurgood supports limiting the number of guns to protect children the majority of people who talked with ABC 4 disagree.

"If everyone knew that teachers were armed then no one would go into schools with bad intentions," said Richard Stevens.

This proposal to recommend every home have a gun is not an official city ordinance. It'll go before a public hearing.

Tree concealed weapons classes for Spring City Teachers begins January 11 at 6:00 p.m.

I'm okay with living in a country that allows its citizens to own guns. I'm NOT okay with living in a country where owning a gun is the only way I'll feel safe.
