SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – The snow storm that was anticipated to hit Friday didn’t bring as much bad weather as expected.

Utah Highway Patrol normally responds to dozens of crashes, but the roads were fairly dry and there was not a large amount of snowfall.

Sergeant Jeff Nigbur with UHP said the biggest problem they face is drivers who do not slow down or buckle up during snowy driving conditions.

Nigbur took ABC 4 News Reporter Cristina Rendon and Photographer Tyler Gibbons on a ride along through Parley’s Canyon.

“The canyon can be a dangerous place,” he said.

Nigbur said he anticipated many accidents, but there were only a handful of rush hour related crashes during rush hour.

When freezing temperatures mix with wet roads, black ice forms causing accidents on Utah highways.

He said people can reduce injuries by not tailgating. If you are in an accident, drive to the nearest exit and pull over.

Nigbur said they are not giving up on Mother Nature just yet. Extra troops will be on standby in case more snow falls on the valley over the weekend.
