“I think in Utah people have become more aware of gun violence,” -Caleb Hunt
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Numerous gunshots rang out in Trolley Square Mall more than six years ago
on February 12, 2007.

The news spread quickly through Utah. “The breaking news came on about what was going on.  I was pretty shocked,”
remembers Caleb Hunt.

An 18-year-old man walked into the Mall at 6:44 p.m. with a shotgun and shot indiscriminately at innocent
shoppers— killing five and injuring four.

“My heart goes out to all the people involved.  It changed their lives forever,” said Doug Hammond.

Off duty officer Kenneth Hammond from Ogden shot and killed the 18-year-old shooter.

“I’m grateful there was someone there that could protect those people,” said Jesus Mendez.

The people of Utah continue to think about the day gunshots rang out in Trolley Square.  It may very well change Utah forever.  “I think in Utah people have become more aware of gun violence,” said Hunt.

Just FYI, FORMER OPD Officer Hammond did not stop the Trolley Square shooter six years ago, SLCPD SWAT did. Officer Hammond is the one seen running away in the video you keep showing. If I remember correctly, he was also fired shortly after for sexual misconduct and went to jail . So get your facts straight and quit making him out to be the hero.
