SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Republican John Swallow won the race to become Utah's next attorney general Tuesday night.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Swallow beat out democratic challenger Dee Smith by a 64 to 30 percent margin.

Swallow will replace outgoing AG Mark Shurtleff, who appointed him as his deputy AG in 2009.

Shurtleff has served as Utah's AG since 2001.

Do people not realize that Swallow fought to allow Pay Day loan centers to do whatever they wanted? Nevermind that Republicans and Democrats here fought to limit them on their sneaking tactics to prey on the poor. A lot of people vote blindly here. I wish Utah would get rid of the option to vote for one party and take off which party each candidate is from. That would make a lot of people finally do some research, I hope.
