SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - "Sandy" is now affecting the presidential campaign.

With just over a week left before Election Day, both candidates have canceled some campaign events because of the super storm.

President Obama canceled Florida campaigning to return to Washington to monitor the storm.

After visiting with FEMA workers, Mr. Obama told a nationwide audience that Sandy is a big and powerful storm.

He also said politics must wait,

"The election will take care of itself next week. Right now, our number one priority is to make sure that we are saving lives."

Mitt Romney canceled campaign appearances in the swing state of Virginia.

He also stopped sending fundraising emails to storm states, donated a campaign bus to help with relief efforts and urged Americans to donate to storm funds.

Romney told one group of supporters,

"I know right now some people in our country are nervous about a storm about to hit the coast and our thoughts and prayers are with the people who will find themselves in harm's way."

Early voting in Maryland has now been halted due for two days because of the super storm.

FEMA is also saying the weather has the potential to disrupt elections even more.
