PARK CITY, UTAH (ABC 4 News) – Cell phones, laptops, and iPads are everywhere you look on Park City’s Main Street. Those using them, however, are not always successfully communicating.
Tom Thimot finally got through to his daughter, a California kindergartener this afternoon. He says he has had real problems since arriving in Park City. “You just lose your connection.”
He is unimpressed that local wireless carriers have installed additional temporary cell-towers to increase bandwidth during the festival. “It’s not helping yet.”
The biggest complaints are about Wi-Fi and the inability to send data. Some festival goers say it has taken hours for text messages and picture messages to arrive at their destinations. They say email is worse and sometimes doesn’t arrive at all.
Some carriers have faired better than others in the communication overload, but based on our non-scientific poll, all seem to have experienced trouble keeping up with the demand of the 45,000 film makers, movie buffs and media in town to see hundreds of movies and nightlife they apparently can’t wait to share.
