SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - If you were out on the road Monday morning chances are you saw a crazy commute. The snow hit the streets just in time for the morning drive, and caused some serious damage.
After looking at wrecks from Salt Lake to Davis County, drivers are describing Monday's morning commute all the same way.
"It's been slick," said Arlo Frank, West Valley City resident.
"Very slippery," said Margarete Chapman, West Valley City resident.
"Everybody was sliding around," said Porter Moffitt, Salt Lake City resident.
Drivers slid off the road, smashed into medians and other cars, some ABC 4 talked to said the snow caught them by surprise.
"Do you think you were ready for all the snow this morning?” Reporter Brian Carlson asked a driver.
“No definitely not," said Gary Robinson, Salt Lake City resident.
ABC 4 talked to a driver of a car who crashed on I-80 around 10:00 a.m., she said was on her way to work, when suddenly she hit a patch of ice, lost control, and slammed into the barrier.
A tow truck driver said he saw wrecks like that all morning long.
"How many have you seen?” Carlson asked the tow trucker driver.
“Oh probably 15, 18,” he said.
“And that's just in the past couple hours?” Carlson asked.
“That's just since 8 o'clock," he said.
Those crashes backed up traffic for commuters across the valley. And it wasn't until late morning before roads calmed down.
