SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Ten years ago right now, our state was putting the final touches on preparations to host the world for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
Ten years later, it’s time to party! The celebrations don’t just mark the past, but the impact Utah continues to make on the winter sport world.
The Olympic Cauldron will be reignited and the state will get the chance to remember the sports and Olympians that filled two weeks of our lives ten years ago. An Olympic Sport Festival and Stars on Ice show will happen mid February.
We won’t just be celebrating what we did, but what Utah continues to do. Utah’s Olympic venues are still open and daily athletes of all skill level are taking advantage of the facilities.
Colin Hilton, President of Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation, told ABC 4 News, “We don't look at the venues as places where games were held, but where children get involved in these venues.”
