SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Salt Lake County Councilman, Randy Horiuchi, is in serious condition at the University of Utah Hospital after suffering a stroke.

Horiuchi has been prominent in Salt Lake politics for decades. The 58-year-old is reportedly alert, and conscious. His family is by his side.

The two time Utah Democratic Party Chairman has been in public service since 1991.

Only family is being allowed to visit at this time. They issued a statement thanking the many people who have expressed concern, but they are asking the public to respect his need for privacy and time to recover.
