SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Where's the best place for a happy marriage? The answer from RealAge.com is Salt Lake City.
In rankings just released by the health website, the authors noted that the epicenter for marriages in Salt Lake is LDS Temple Square. During the peak of wedding season, it said the temple hosts 80 weddings a day.
But the wedding day is just the beginning, RealAge.com said of greater importance is what happens after the wedding day. It says Salt Lake City spouses are good partners because of "their healthy habits, such as being physically active and not smoking, made SLC the second youngest city in the overall rankings."
On the streets of the "Happy Marriage Capital of America," We heard some good advice from happily married couples.
The Shawcrofts have been married for six years. Joe's Advice? "Keep working at it." His wife, Ashley, recommended that you cultivate a lot of "mutual interests."
The Orfanos have been married three years. Amanda Orfanos suggested, "Keep things new." He husband Josh added, tongue-in-cheek, "Love your wife and don't upset her!"
The final word we heard came from the Hadfields who have been married 19 years. In fact, Monday was the couple's anniversary. We believe their advice reflected more of what they see in each other. "Marry a hard working guy," said Danaca Hadfield. John Hadfield added, "Marry a patient woman."
In explaining its list, RealAge.com said there are distinct health benefits to a happy marriage. "One big benefit of a happy marriage is you tend to keep each other in line. You encourage good behaviors, such as going to see the doctor, and discourage wild and crazy ones (e.g., smoking, drinking too much, eating poorly) in one another. You also give each other emotional support through good times and bad, in sickness and in health, which makes your bodies run better and boosts your overall health. Plus, you often laugh together, which is good for your body and soul."
