SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Take a look outside and you’ll likely see haze hovering in the air.
The inversion over Salt Lake City is irritating lungs, eyes and launching a red air day warning.
Underneath the murky haze hovering over Salt Lake City the vantage point is much less clear.
“It looks a little dry I guess. It’s a little dry,” said Erin Ellickson.
“I can’t tell if it’s foggy or if it’s pollution. You tell me,” said Renee Shaw.
Another look over the Salt Lake Valley this time from above the University of Utah reveals the billions and billions of microscopic pollutants in the air irritating lungs and watering eyes.
“It is smoggy but it looks better than it has in the last couple of days I guess,” said Keylie Earl.
Utah’s Department of Environmental Quality is issuing a red air warning asking people with heart and breathing problems to reduce physical exertion and outdoor activity.
Wood and coal stoves or fireplaces must not be used, violators can be fired up to $500. Drivers are asked to carpool.
The haze is likely sticking around for the remainder of the week.
