PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Likely one of the most difficult parts of a perfect proposal is making it a true surprise. One Provo lover boy pulled it off no problem … even in a very public way.
Shaun Johnson started working at MediaOne this December. It’s the company that sells the ads for the Salt Lake Tribune. One day a light went off.
“I pictured something small and simple that I could maybe direct her attention to,” said Johnson.
Johnson wanted to buy a small ad in the Salt Lake Tribune. He thought it was an easy task getting her to read it because they’d already talked about looking at his first successfully sold ad as soon as it’s published.
“So he’s like, ‘I got my first ad.’ So, it was normal that we were just going to look through the paper,” said 21-year-old Nicole Wait.
Little did she know she was about to flip to a huge color ad detailing Johnson’s Christmas list. It read:
Shaun’s
Christmas List
1. Nicole
2. More Nicole
3. …
NICOLE, WILL YOU MARRY ME?
There was also a big picture of Johnson on the right, knelt down holding out the engagement ring.
“And then I looked down and quickly read it and was just like in shock and then he was just down on his knee and asked me to marry him,” said Wait.
The couple met last summer when they were serving as youth camp counselors for a BYU camp. They started dating in March and are now ready for the next chapter to begin.
“Christmas can be done now. That's what I think because I got my present right here,” said Wait.
