OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Weber County prosecutor says the man suspected of shooting six officers and killing one of them will face an aggravated murder charge.
Matthew David Stewart remains in a hospital recovering from wounds he received during a shootout with members of a Weber-Morgan drug enforcement task force Wednesday night.
Weber County Prosecutor Dee Smith spoke during a news conference on Monday, giving a few new details about the investigation. Smith said that besides the pending charge against Stewart for the death of Officer Jared Francom, who was killed in the mêlée of bullets at Stewart's home.
Five other officers were wounded in the shootout. Three remained hospitalized as of Monday.
During the Monday news conference, Smith said investigators found chemicals inside the home that could be used to make an explosive device.
Smith said the chemicals were detonated inside Stewart's home over the weekend.
Smith also said that investigators turned up a photo of Stewart dressed as a terrorist.
One of Stewart's friends later told ABC 4 that the photo was taken during the Halloween season in which Stewart dressed as Osama bin Laden.
Smith said that his office couldn't release a lot of details about the shootout because they were trying to protect the integrity of the investigation.
Smith added that officers planned to arrest and charge Stewart with capital murder charges once he is well enough to leave the hospital.
