"Mitt Romney when he speaks about foreign military policy is essentially standing on jello," - Tim Chambless
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - University of Utah political science professor Tim Chambless says President Obama won last nights debate, but just barely.

The debate about foreign policy favored President Obama because only he knows classified information vital to protecting the United States of America and Gov. Mitt Romney does not, Chambless said.

"And so Mitt Romney when he speaks about foreign military policy is essentially standing on jello. You know it's fairly shaky ground for him, he said.

"So Mitt Romney is weak if he's talking about foreign policy. Is that what you're saying?" asked ABC 4's Noah Bond. "That is correct. because he's speaking more hypothetically rather than pragmatically and he doesn't have the insight and knowledge the President has. He's not privy to the insight the President has," Chambless said.

Chambless Romney tried to move the debate toward his strength. Several times Romney steered the discussion back to the economy. "Both candidates linked it as much as they could to domestic policy specifically the economy," Chambless said.

Romney on several occasions said a strong economy is the foundation for a strong military.

Chambless says the biggest mistake belongs to the President.

"I think that President Obama when asked the question, what was the greatest threat to the United States, should have said that we are far more threatened by our own indebtedness. That weaken us in many ways than to say a few individuals living underground in Afghanistan or Pakistan," Chambless said.

Despite this fumble Chambless says President Obama won.

Chambless says Romney won the first debate. Obama won the second debate and again hands last nights win to President Obama so he is the overall winner when we just look at the political points is the President, according to Chambless.
