WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Police said a man who caused a serious crash was trying to get away from another accident he caused down the street.

The first accident happened at 7800 South and Redwood Road.

Police said the driver of a maroon Ford truck sped away from the crash and ran a red light at 7000 South and Redwood, the scene of the second crash.

The truck crashed into the back of a white sedan car then ran over it entirely. Two women were trapped inside the car.

The driver, 30-year-old Tyler Jones of Taylorsville, bailed out of the truck and took off running.

“There was a cop right around here and I just heard him saying, ‘Get him, get him’,” Ally McEuen, a witness, said.

The suspected drunk driver didn’t run very far. A few good Samaritans tackled him until police could put him in handcuffs. One of them was a retired law enforcement officer.

Rescuers freed the two women. They were taken to the hospital with only minor injuries.

Jones is facing charges of Driving under the influence, Hit and Run, Driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance, running a red light and having the wrong plates on a vehicle.
