TREMONTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A Utah family is being torn apart. The mother and four of her children are being deported to El Salvador, but several of the siblings will remain here in United States.
"If they are deported, this country is deporting them to their death,” said a supporter for the family.
People who support Ana Canenguez and her children living in Tremonton tell ABC 4 what's happening to her family is a horrible tragedy.
"Please President Obama don't let my mother and my four brothers go," said Luis Granda, son of Canenguez.
Canenguez and 4 of her children are illegal immigrants. They are now being deported back to El Salvador. But the three other siblings are staying in U.S. It's literally tearing their family apart.
"We're safe here. We have a liberty we don't have in our country, this is our home," said Job Ramirez, son of Canenguez.
Many of their supporters gathered at the Iglesia Pentacostal Luz Y Verdad (Church) in Kearns Monday afternoon to hold a press conference asking President Obama to let them stay together.
"These people are good people, they're church people, they're Christians," said Jimmie Warren the 3rd, Holy Way Christian Ministries.
Supporters said they family has built a good life in Utah. They said Canenguez is a former PTA President and Parent of Year. They said Canenguez is afraid of the quality of life her children would receive back in El Salvador. The family seriously believes if the President doesn't intervene, the children who are being deported, will be killed.
"She knows that her children are expected to die because that's the reality, that's what people in El Salvador go through everyday and she knows if they return there that’s what her fate will be,” said Canenguez.
ABC 4 is told Canenguez brought her family to Utah, because she said four of her children received death threats while living in El Salvador. She couldn't pay the protection money and that is why she came here, to give them a safer life.
