HERRIMAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A horse is alive tonight after being extracted by rescue crews from a basement in Herriman.
The horse originally got stuck in a window well just outside the basement of his owner's house. When Unified Fire crews showed up, they discovered the horse was too large to pull from the window well. Instead, they broke out the basement window and got the horse inside the basement.
After an attempt to try to get the horse up the stairs inside its owner's home, rescue crews decided to extract it by digging a trench outside another window in the basement. Before hauling the horse out on a gurney, a veterinarian tranquilized the animal to keep it calm.
With at least six people pulling the horse up on the gurney with ropes, it was finally freed from the basement after being stuck in there for about three hours.
The horse has only minor injuries, but the house it was stuck in sustained major damages.
