SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Friday Harmon’s kicked off its March fundraising campaign to support the Special Olympics of Utah with the third annual Bowl-a-Palooza at Bonwood Bowl in Salt Lake City.

The event hopes to launch the campaign by raising $25,000 of its $220,000 goal.

Harmon’s has been a big supporter of SOUT for 19 years. Friday, two rounds and 73 teams of bowlers suited up. Each team was made up of one Special Olympian and three or four Harmon’s Associates.

“So, they get to interact, share stories, laughter … but, the coolest thing is mostly the Olympians kick their butts,” said Harmon’s VP for the Customer, Bob Harmon.

And each year the campaign just keeps building momentum.

“In fact, we had to turn away people who wanted to participate this year!” said Harmon.

Utah has 2,300 Special Olympians who compete at 51 competitions each year. It’s a time, just like at Bowl-a-Palooza, where they are all winners.

There are ways to help the March campaign each time you visit Harmon’s. A part of the proceeds of frozen food sales will be donated to SOUT and you can also give a donation as you check out with a cashier. There will be athletes selling root beer floats and orange smoothies. Those proceeds will go directly to benefiting the respective team.
