HERRIMAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - This holiday season won't be the same for those people affected by Hurricane Sandy but one little Utah girl is doing her part to help make the holidays a little brighter.

It started with an idea, Lets say, “from the board game memory”, of a Herriman 4th grader and her sister.

“And so my sister is like we should do something for them,” said 4th grader Marissa Acocks.

Unlike the popular game “Don’t spill the beans” they did. Everyone knew their plan to have a toy drive for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

It started on December 3rd after the Principal at Silver Crest Elementary School gave it the OK. Marissa Acocks and friends made posters and sent home notes to parents all in hopes to get 1000 toys.

“It’s a lot of toys,” said Marissa.

But it wasn't easy.

“We had to get somebody to take the toys to Hurricane Sandy and that was a big obstacle for us,” said Marissa.

After about a week of generosity from others and help from fellow students they made the goal.

“Our goal was 1000 toys and we got to 1192,” said Student Council Member Kanon Glade.

“They got quite a few donations and I think that there's going to be a lot of happy children back East,” said Marissa’s Mom Susan Acocks

Susan can't be happier of what her daughters accomplished.

“I'm very proud of them. They came together as a team,” said Susan.

Marissa learned what it takes to give.

“This is such an awesome experience,” said Marissa.

But she says giving is just in her nature.

“It makes me feel really happy that I'm going to get to do something for other people and I love helping others,” said Marissa.
