LINDON, Utah (ABC 4 News) – The Patches Majestic Metals building fire in Lindon forced crews to shut down three blocks of State Street from 400 North to 700 North.
“We’re concerned that it could possibly collapse onto State Street. The building is leaning outward at the top,” said Lindon Police Chief , Cody Cullimore.
Drivers were diverted east around the area. The diversion set some drivers back up to 20 minutes, according to Cullimore.
Cars were backed up for several hundred feet during busy traffic times in Lindon. “When you’re there some people complain and you end up complaining yourself, but you just got to get through it,” said driver, Caleb Becerra.
Cullimore says he has never seen a portion of State Street closed, like it was on Wednesday, in his more than 20 years at the Department.
Two near-by homes were also evacuated. The fire destroyed one of the homes.
Area businesses were also at risk of losing power because of 7500 watt power lines dangling above the hot flames, but those lines and the power to area businesses were spared.
