SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The world's largest Family History Conference is in Salt Lake City. It launched Thursday in the Salt Palace and continues through Saturday.

Nearly 7,000 people are attending the Conference in the Salt Palace, which is 3,000 more than last year.

"For me it's all about the pictures. Family History is photography," said Photo Detective, Maureen Taylor.

Family history buffs are coming from all over the country to talk with people like Taylor. "Wall Street Journal called me the nation's foremost historical photo detective," she said.

One look at a photo dating as far back as 1839 reveals all sorts of clues. "A photograph tells your story. A photograph can connect you with someone from the past," said Taylor. She knows all the tricks to gleaning as much information as possible for photos. Learn more at www.MaureenTaylor.com.

There is help if you don't know who is in your old family photos at the free website site www.photofacematch.com

"You find that one picture you think it's Aunt Lucy from 30 years ago, but there's no name on the back side. We can use facial recognition technology to see if that's really aunt Lucy," said Facial Recognition Presenter, Steve Miller.

Yvonne Bausman's business is designed to digitize all of your old media, but for a price.

"We work with families and or businesses taking any kind of media really most of them can't view or look at anymore. We get it digitized so it stops deteriorating and it's in a digital format. They can actually look at, comment about, view-- what ever," said Media and Data Technologies Owner, Yvonne Bausman.

You can learn more by going to www.MadTechnologies.com.

The Family History Conference continues here in the Salt Palace March 23 from 8:30 a.m.to 4 p.m.

You can watch the most popular sessions online for free and find free tools to search your family history by clicking on one of the attached links.

The booths are free, but there is a charge to attend some of the sessions.

It is frustrating that here in Utah we have the largest family history library right at our fingertips and yet as an adoptee from/in Utah, because of sealed adoption records, we can't access it. There are many who have resorted to posting our information on FaceBook in hopes of getting found, including myself. Please, we ask that everyone contact your local representatives and seek out pending legislation to end this barrier preventing us from getting our information, open our records at age 18. Please and Thank you! Facebook page: Utah Adoption Search
