SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The planet survived two end of the world predictions this month. The end of the Mayan Calendar was December 21 and Fundamentalist Latter-day Saint leader Warren Jeffs predicted the end of the world for December 23. Now he says the real end of the world is before the start of 2013.

An ABC 4 investigation reveals Jeffs end of the world prophecies have been wrong 100 percent of the time.

"Warren Jeffs is saying the end of the world is coming before the beginning of 2013. What do you think about that?" ABC 4's Noah Bond asked a group of City Creek shoppers in Salt Lake City.

"I don't think it's going to happen. I think it's crazy to think that,"said Staisha Memmott.

"I don't believe in all this end of the world stuff," said Ali Taylor.

According to Paul Murphy who is a spokesman for Utah's Attorney General, Warren Jeffs predicted Utah would experience major calamities during the 2002 Winter Olympics and
Jesus Christ would appear to the world, but as we all now know the Olympics are credited as one of the best.

"It shows how great our country is that we can allow people to share their beliefs like that," said Ryan Spellins.

After Jeffs arrest for child rape, he came out with a series of writings about destruction and the sinful behavior of the world. One of his predictions included the end of the world on December 23 beginning with the geysers in Yellowstone National Park blowing their tops.

"Anything could happen, but again you just have to live life to the fullest. Life is amazing so you've got to respect everyday," said Jessica Barber.

Now, Jeffs says the end of the world is coming before the end of 2013. He is instructing his followers not to eat corn, oatmeal, dairy or turnips. His followers even closed the only grocery store in their community.

"I feel like they're following who they believe. So it's their choice, their decision," said Kaylea Drake.

Jeffs is telling his followers if they follow his instructions they'll live while the rest of mankind is destroyed.

Looks like the idiots were wrong again.... This phenomena is common to the faiths that predict a catastrophic end to the world. Islam, Mormonism and Christianity output these individuals regularly. @oaktree How can you miss the fact that reporting on these stories helps show the world how poisonous religious thinking can be to the human mind. This IS news and it DOES help everyone understand what your brain looks like on religion. To see that thousands of people follow such a man and believe the things he says reveals the startling weakness of the following mechanism inherent to the Homo sapiens' brain.

If you can't believe a child rapist who CAN you believe? Time to ban ALL religion and get rid of silly superstitions and beliefs based on fear.

LOL. Hey KTVX. Invest in a new video player format. Your current one sucks and has sucked for the last few years.

Why is this news??? The man is a nut, or more politely, seriously mentally ill with little touch with reality. Spare us and stop giving publicity to people like this. It helps no one and gives him a platform for his silly ideas, predictions, and orders to his sad group of deluded followers.

So whats new... The law "turns a blind eye" to FLDS polygamy where children (girls as young as 12) are married off to older men and then live off of welfare, food stamps and Medicaid (known as "bleeding the beast")... as discussed in new book "plygs", a fact based journalistic view at the world of FLDS polygamy... As part of his prison term and getting caught communicating with his group on a conference call all communication was to be cut off... as you can tell that didn't work... now families and mainly the children in this group are at a very high risk. Most children have been removed from the community from what we understand putting them into the arms of potential further abuse... this group are nothing but pedophiles and welfare cheats... and the law does not seem to be doing anything to stop it..
