SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – New Salt Lake City official documents confirm what ABC 4 first reported several months ago; that the LDS Church is now involved in a major land swap in downtown Salt Lake.

As we first reported, this land swap is between the LDS Church and the venerable Alta Club. According to newly filed city documents, the Alta Club would give the LDS Church its current parking lot - which is actually across the street from the club. In return, the LDS Church would demolish the old Mr. Mac store at 160 East South Temple. The Church would then build a new Alta Club parking lot where the old Mr. Mac building stood. This new parking area would then be on the same side of the street as the club.

But that's not all.

In other city documents discovered by ABC 4, we get our first glimpse at what this downtown development will look like. Drawings now on file with the city, provide a detailed picture of what the new Alta Club parking lot might look like. The drawings show a good sized parking lot, one tastefully hidden by brick, metal shrubs and trees.

But, as we reported earlier, there may be even more in the works.

Several city council members have previously hinted that the LDS Church
may have new plans to develop the area surrounding the old Alta Club parking lot.
