BOUNTIFUL, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A Bountiful man is recovering from a horrific night in his own home. Robbers apparently choked him unconscious with a shoelace and then duct taped his body to a table, according to a Davis County Probable cause statement.

The victim was powerless to move as the suspects ransacked him home taking what ever they wanted.

According to the probable cause statement Garrett Sweat and his girlfriend Jordan Thornberg bound a Bountiful man in his home at 1068 East 2200 South and then rummaged through his house.

A statement prepared by officer Scott Gilbert reads the two took, “…a debit card…, a cell phone… The defendant and co-defendant forced the homeowner to write a check to them in the amount of $1,100.

“Obviously that person wasn’t very smart because obviously he’s going to get caught that way,” said Emilee Monson from Bountiful.

The probable cause statement says Sweat and his girlfriend left ample evidence inside the victim’s home and “officers were also able to see evidence that a check had been written out to what appeared a Jordan Thornberg.”

The statement also reads, “In the pocket of a discarded jacket (left by the suspects) was a hospital document referencing the name of Garrett Sweat.”

“You’d have to be very stupid to do that. I don’t know I just think that’s ridiculous,” Kelli Thueson from Bountiful.

The victim is recovering from bruising around his neck where he was apparently choked with a shoelace.

Sweat was on felony probation at the time of this alleged crime. He now faces four new felony charges.
