A group from the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Fund in Washington D.C. is in town, hoping Utahns can help them put faces to names.

Jan Scruggs is heading up the group, and he has a big task to tackle.

"We need 207 photographs from residents in Utah who gave their lives in Vietnam," Scruggs said.

Those photographs are the next step in the Vietnam Veteran Memorial. An educational center is in the works that would put a photograph and story to each name on the wall. Scruggs is reaching out to the LDS church, and Utah Veteran’s Affairs has already jumped on board.

"It reminds the families that we will never forget that sacrifice or those service members," said Terry Schow with Utah Veteran’s Affairs.

They're reaching out to different organizations across the state hoping to collect some of those photos. Their work is already paying off.

"Oh I think it's fabulous, absolutely fabulous, now they will never be forgotten," said Alice Telford.

Telford lives in Salt Lake City; she lost her son John in the Vietnam War.

"Their job was to go and search out the enemy and then they would radio to the ships or planes where they were located," Telford said.

She has gone to The Wall in D.C. twice to see her son's name etched in stone.

"In fact his name is panel 25 line 9," she said with a smile.

Now, Alice has given the fund a picture and soon it will be featured right next to that name. Telford said she couldn't be happier about it.

"I’m glad to see what they're doing, it's about time, it's 50 years," she said.

Scruggs said there are also 289 service members across the nation who identified themselves as LDS, but don’t have pictures. He’s hoping the church can help them find family of those members, too.

The fund is raising $85 million dollars for the new education center at The Wall in Washington, but they need those pictures. Click here to learn more or to submit a picture.
