SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – A corrections officer is charged with having sexual relations with a parolee.
Teresa Freeman was charged with custodial sexual relations, a third degree felony in Salt Lake district court.
Freeman was a guard at the Orange Street Corrections Facility in Salt Lake City.
“There was certainly communications being made by some of the parties being involved and that information got to the authorities," said Salt Lake District Attorney Sim Gill.
An inmate by the name of B.G. admitted to authorities of the relationship.
In September, prosecutors claimed Freeman and B.G. checked in to the Motel 6 on North Temple.
Court documents claim the pair were "lying naked on the bed, kissing” and having sexual relations.
According to a motel clerk Freeman did check in on September 27 by herself. The records show that she checked out on the same day. The clerk said Freeman asked for a refund allegedly unhappy with the accommodations.
It's not the first time a guard and an inmate at Orange Street halfway house got together.
A corrections spokesman says another guard is under investigation for the same kind of crime. But it’s unrelated to Freeman or B. G.
Prosecutors say they clean house anytime a person of trust fails to carry out one's duty.
"We do expect a higher standard,” Gill said. “And because if you don't follow through with that you not only betray your professionalism but the trust that has been given to you by society."
