SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Body language expert and 3 Key Elements President Kirk Duncan says Gov. Mitt Romney won the last presidential debate because he was more calm and held still while his ideas were attacked.
Duncan says President Obama lost because he smirked giggled as Romney attacked his ideas.
The body language of both candidates is evolving. Unlike the first two debates the candidates flashed genuine smiles at each other. Duncan says he knows because he looked at their eyes. "This time their eyes are very open, which shows a whole entire face smile," Duncan said.
Duncan says the candidates body movements were more subdued during this debate because they were sitting behind a desk so he had to look more closely for meaning. "There is so much more being said when their mouth in closed," Duncan said.
Duncan says at least three times President Obama lifted his head and looked directly at Romney when he apparently felt unfairly attacked. "The periscope movement is definitely a message that he's sending to Mitt Romney and to the country going, do you not see me and what I have done?" said Duncan. "What does this communicate about our President?" asked ABC 4's Noah Bond. Duncan replied, "What that says is that he will defend this Country and he will stick his neck out for the Country."
Next Duncan took a close look at the candidates hand gestures. First Romney's, "He will use his hands then he puts his fingers back together or he will put his hands out in this movement, you'll see Romney not chopping the President chops," Duncan said.
Duncan says Romney's interlocked fingers communicates that he is engaging both sides of his brain. He says it can also send the message that he is protecting or gating himself off or holding himself back.
Duncan says Mr. Obama's chopping block gestures send a message of a knife on a chopping board. He says it's like saying, next on the chopping block.
Romney's body language was stronger for the first debate, President Obama's body language was stronger for the second debate, but Romney won the third debate so overall he is the body language winner, according to Duncan.
