SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Utah Highway Patrol troopers are responding to numerous accidents along the Wasatch Front as heavy snow and black ice cover the roads.

As of 9pm on Saturday night, UHP had reported 75 accidents from Weber to Utah County.  At least nine of them involved injuries, but no fatalities.

Troopers say black ice is to blame for most of the accidents.  They are urging drivers to slow down and give themselves plenty of room between cars.

Chains and 4-wheel drive vehicles are required to go up Parley's and Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons.

Lake effect snow will last into Sunday with another three to six inches expected on valley floors.  The mountains could receive another foot, bringing the base total to four feet.
