SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - ABC News is investigating Mitt Romney’s millions.
Investigative reporter Brian Ross traveled to the
Cayman Islands to look into Romney’s offshore money.
And, Wednesday afternoon,
I talked with Ross in a satellite interview.
ABC 4 News: "Mr. Ross, most Americans do not keep their money in the Cayman Islands. What is Mr. Romney doing with his there?"
Brian Ross: "Well, that's a good question. He says that's there's no tax advantage for him being in the Cayman Islands, yet the Caymans are a notorious tax haven."
ABC 4 News: "It seems like it might not be that much of reach to say that, when it comes to Mr. Romney, we could be talking about possibly millions of dollars?"
Ross: "We counted at least 12 different funds from his financial disclosure form, required of all presidential candidates, and they show a range of how much money is in there, not precise figures. But there is as much as 30 million dollars potentially."
ABC 4 News: "What did you take away from this story? What did you find that was especially surprising or intriguing."
Ross: "He is among the super rich who take advantage of loopholes in the U.S. tax system. I don't think he's done anything illegal but there are great advantages to people with lots of money to keep their taxes at a minimum and he certainly, with all the lawyers and accountants who have worked with him over the years, has found out what they are."
