SALT LAKE COUNTY (ABC 4 News) - A 17-year-old boy was stuck up Rocky Mouth Canyon, behind a waterfall, for over three hours Wednesday night. Mitchell Hess told ABC 4 at one point, he thought he was going to die.
Hess was with his buddies hiking Rocky Mouth Canyon, but that evening hike turned into an overnight ordeal.
Hess' friend Parker Landgeren told ABC4, "Some friends and I were climbing around the waterfall. Mitch climbed too high and he's stuck up there."
At first, Hess' friends thought hew as just being funny, but this wasn't a joke. Hess was stuck.
Hess said, "I was holding on like this, for 3 hours, I started getting 'Charlie horses' in my leg. It was really bad."
It was so bad, he needed help. Fortunately Hess had his cell phone and there was service up the canyon.
While Hess was okay, he did need the help of Unified Police and their Search and Rescue Team to get to safety.
Hess said, "It was a scary moment then, but now it's kind of cool."
As for another hike up Rocky Mouth Canyon; Hess said, "My mom says no, but we'll see."
