Robert Maxwell is thrilled to join the ABC4 team, anchoring ABC4 news at 5p, 6p and 10p with Karen Carlson. And as an outdoors enthusiast, he’s excited to now call Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Front home. Before moving to Utah in Sept 2009, Robert served as weekend anchor and reporter at the number one-rated ABC affiliate in Orlando, Florida. During his time at WFTV, Robert covered high speed chases and severe weather stories including tornadoes, flooding and wildfires. He also witnessed space shuttle launches, even alligators that roamed too close to their human neighbors’ homes. Robert broke a number of significant stories including how Florida’s confusing gun laws were resulting in the arrest of dozens of gun toting motorists for carrying concealed firearms even while the law permitted it. Florida police recruits are now trained more carefully. Prior to his work in the Sunshine state, Robert anchored and reported for an innovative, investigative news program in Toronto, one of North America's largest urban centers. The program was nominated for national awards for continuing coverage of a missing girl, kidnapped from her own bed and later found murdered. Robert grew up in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa where he also spent five years broadcasting locally and nationally in both radio and television. While in Florida, Robert regularly guest lectured at the University of Central Florida’s journalism school. He’s also volunteered as a mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. When he’s not in the ABC4 newsroom, Robert enjoys listening to live jazz, hiking, skiing, surfing the web and reading.
