Brian Carlson is an award-winning journalist who is happy to be reporting in his hometown.
In 2012, Brian won a regional Emmy for his report titled “Spice in the City”. Brian purchased drugs undercover and was instrumental in assisting police capture an illegal drug dealer.
In 2012, the Utah Society of Professional Journalists awarded Brian 1st place in feature reporting.
Brian was born and raised in Salt Lake City. He got his first taste of on-air news in high school, at a Salt Lake area TV station- and loved it! Brian took his enthusiasm for news to BYU, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.
In 2004, Brian began his professional TV career at KNDU in Kennewick, Washington. He started as a reporter, but was quickly promoted to Morning Anchor.
When opportunity came for Brian to join ABC4 in September 2008, he jumped at the chance! Since returning home, Brian broke the news the Apple Store is coming to City Creek Center. Brian is the only reporter Jazz Bear has allowed to perform with him in costume during a NBA game. During his reports, Brian has done everything from skydiving to the Olympic skeleton; he exclusively interviewed a man tortured by his roommates, and showed the moment an elderly couple discovered they lost everything they own in the Wood Hollow wildfire.
Brian currently reports for the ABC 4 Night Team at 10 p.m. and fills in as the Morning Anchor on Good Morning Utah.
Brian’s hobbies include rock climbing, football, drawing, volunteering, skiing, wakeboarding, working out, and watching movies.
Brian currently lives in the Salt Lake area.
